Inlay bonding guide for acrylic dentures

  1. Choose an inlay for the particular tooth that needs fitment.
  2. Make sure that the inlay shape fits that of the tooth. Bend to shape if needed.
  3. Prepare tooth by cutting away material just less than the space needed for the inlay.
  4. Warm up tweezer in flame, not the inlay. Pick up inlay with hot tweezer. Heat transfer will occur.
  5. Melt hot inlay into acrylic - push into desired position and keep still until fixed.
  6. Close palatal part of retention with tooth-coloured self-cure acrylic. Touch up any defects or spaces on anterior side of the tooth. Cure and finish as per acrylic manufacturer's instructions.
  7. Smooth holding tag and repair the shape of the inlay. Keep the thickness of the inlay in mind when doing so.
  8. Polish inlay as per usual for artificial teeth. Take care not to overpolish the inlay. This may wear away the material.
